Introduction to silver metal clay - full day workshop

Silver metal clay is a wonderful material that can be shaped and textured just like ceramic clay. It is made from silver particles mixed with organic binders and water which, when fired, burn away to leave beautiful fine silver. Silver metal clay enables jewellers to create organic shapes and to experiment with moulds and textures. Creating with silver clay is great fun and pretty magical when you see the fine silver suddenly appear after firing.

Price includes the use of all tools and equipment.  A block of polymer clay and 10g of silver metal clay are provided, along with a necklace chain and jump rings. Extra silver metal clay will be available to buy on the day.

What you will make:

You will make a set of charms for a necklace. You will be able to choose your own design – either pebble-shaped, or using different shaped cutters. You will decorate the charms by applying textures or a stamp.

What you will learn:

You will learn about the characteristics of silver metal clay and the basic techniques which will enable you to create simple designs. These include rolling, texturing and marking, and finishing and firing. You will start by practising these techniques using polymer clay and when you feel confident you will apply them to silver metal clay.
