Description
Capture the delicate beauty of the Derbyshire Dales in this magical half-day workshop.
Using the fascinating medium of silver metal clay, you will learn how to take a piece of autumn foliage and use it to create a unique fine silver pendant.
Silver clay is a wonderful material made of tiny recycled silver particles held together in an organic binder. It feels like putty to work with, but once fired, the binder burns away, leaving you with a piece of fine silver (99.9% pure). It is the perfect way for beginners to achieve incredible detail from nature without years of traditional silversmithing training.
What to Expect
This workshop focuses on the textures of the season. I will guide you through:
Selecting your Foliage: We will use real leaves and seeds—either collected from the Dales or brought from your own garden—to find the perfect textures for imprinting.
Working the Clay: You will learn how to handle, roll, and texture the silver clay to capture every tiny vein and detail of your chosen leaf.
Refining and Drying: We’ll carefully cut and shape your pendant before preparing it for the transformation process.
The Transformation: You will see the "magic" as we torch-fire the clay, watching it turn from a grey putty into solid, hallmarked-quality silver.
Polishing & Finishing: Finally, you will learn how to brush and polish your piece to reveal that unmistakable silver glow, then attach a sterling silver chain to complete your necklace.
What’s Included
Materials: Enough silver clay to make at least one substantial pendant (or a couple of smaller charms) and a sterling silver chain.
Tools: Full use of The Studio's specialist metal clay tools and firing torches.
Refreshments: As always, plenty of warming drinks and homemade cake to enjoy while your pieces dry.

Nature’s Inspiration: You are welcome to bring along a few small, textured leaves or seed pods from your own garden (though I will have plenty of local Dales foliage available too!).
